Active noise canceling is one of those technologies that seems like magic. A true “the future is NOW!” type of technology. Here’s the basic idea: a mini microphone lives inside each earpiece, and picks up ambient noise such as traffic, loud air conditioners, or airplane noise. (It’s totally fine if you’re picturing a little leprechaun or fairy with an ear trumpet right now.) Then electronics (or, the leprechaun/fairy person, if you will) deliver to your ear a noise-canceling wave that is 180° out of phase with the ambient noise. That wave is like a magic noise eraser, so you only hear the audio you want to hear in your headphones. Voilà! Magic sound without all the environmental noise.

These QuietPoint® over-ear headphones feature new Tri-Level Cancellation, so you can customize your noise-canceling level based on the environment that you’re in. Mode 1, ideal for use in planes, trains, and automobiles (no, really) cancels out low-frequency background noise. Mode 2 is specially designed for noisy offices and busy places by targeting mid-range frequencies, and Mode 3 creates a peaceful environment, perfect for when you’ve got to hit the books. Also included is an extra detachable cable with an inline microphone and controller – perfect for taking a call without having to change your headset.
